 Le Isole dello Stagnone

Between the rocky outcrop of Punta di San Teodoro and Capo Lilybeo, between Marsala and Trapani, covers the largest lagoon of Sicily that communicates with the open sea through the Straits of Tramontana and Ponente.

The Lagoon, an ancient flood plain, closed today for the effect of the lifting of marine waters, boasts of 4 islets. This is an environment of great interest and scenic effects, rich in  varius fish fauna . The islands, (the largest called Isola Longa, the smallest just a reef called The School, and the most famous Motya), are covered by dense vegetation that includes rare Mediterranean species associations. The three islands  are cloaked by real woods,   Aleppo pines, palmettos and Agaves, which looming in the undergrowth, and some species of orchids, that blooming in the spring,  enchant for their lush and voluptuous beauty. 

The commonr Byzantine Gladiolus, several types of reeds and some Salicornia, rivaling in rarity and beauty with the sea marigold, which flourished in Europe only in this environment and somewhere in Spain. Migratory and permanent birds of special interest, such as the grille, the Serin, the Goldfinch, the Gaza Strip, the Crested Lark are visible in the
