Erice

The first settlement, by the Elimi, was a temple erected on the  top of Monte San Giuliano, dedicated to the goddess of fertility, the goddess Astarte, as called by the Phoenicians, called by the Greeks Aphrodite, and  Venus Ericina by the Romans on the ruins of which now stands Venus Castle, dating from the twelfth century., all around which has developed the wonderful medieval town famous all over the world with the name of Erice.
Its 60 churches, narrow streets and tortuoise, patios and flowering almond candy shops, breathtaking views of the valley of Erice, and its crafts, ceramics, refined coral.... in short, a dip in a magical and ancient world, the rediscovery of the medieval charm of the face of the island.
